In this course we will
examine how the treatment of substance use disorders has been influenced
by several diverse models of treatment and how that evolution has shaped
the Transtheoretical Model (TTM). We will explore the Stages of Change
model by focusing on the six stages of precontemplation, contemplation,
preparation/determination, action, maintenance and recurrence/relapse.
Discussions will include how identifying a client’s stage of change
impacts the treatment provided by the clinician. Special consideration
will be given to the process of assessing a client’s stage of change and
to identifying appropriate stage specific catalysts that meet clients
where they are in their current process of change.
